EXERCISE – WCF Dark Start EXERCISE

The ARRL West Central Florida Section Simulated Emergency Test (SET)
which takes place on Saturday morning February 7th, 2026 from 0900 through 1200.

The following is a drill message.

At around 0700 EST on February 6th 2026 a fire at
the transformer station next to the Nuclear power plant in Dade County,
FL caused multiple power generating facilities to go offline. The
automatic protection systems created a domino effect, and has darkened
most of the Gold Coast and Space Coast in eastern Florida. A
complicating factor is the recent opening of an AI Hub just west of Vero
Beach, putting a heavy strain on the electrical grid. The State has
alerted all 67 counties, and local emergency managers are monitoring the
progress of power restoration.

This is a drill, repeat this is a drill!!

The PinCo ACS Tactical-Resource net will be initiated on the W4ACS repeater beginning at 0830 local time on Saturday February 7th, 2026. All Pinellas ACS Personnel should monitor the net and follow instructions provided there.

Static Storm Statewide Exercise – CANCELLED

The PinCo ACS Leadership team just received the following information about the Static Storm Exercise.

After careful consideration, the State of Florida has made the decision to postpone the exercise due to the high operational tempo across the state, to ensure it receives the level of participation, coordination, and value appropriate for a statewide effort of this scope. Static Storm is being rescheduled for Spring 2026, with exact dates to be released shortly.

Updated Shelter Activations

Pinellas County has scheduled an additional 4 shelters for activation. We now have 10 shelters scheduled for activation starting tomorrow morning, Wednesday 25 September, at 0700.

The following shelters are now scheduled for activation:

  • John Hopkins – Help Needed
  • Dunedin Middle School – Manned
  • Palm Harbor University – Manned
  • Largo High School – Manned
  • Gibbs High School – Manned
  • Lealman Innovation Center – Manned
  • Campbell Park – Help Needed
  • Clearwater Fundamental – Manned
  • Carwise – Help Needed
  • Palm Harbor Middle School – Manned
