SKYWARN HOME PAGE



SKYWARN Purpose:

* To assist the National Weather Service of the U.S. Commerce Dept. secure critical weather information through a network of trained severe weather spotters. This information, coupled with radar, satellite and other data enables the National Weather Service to issues more timely and accurate warnings for tornados, severe
thunderstorms, and flash floods.

*Training is provided by the local NWS Office under the direction of the Senior
Forecast Meteorologist, Nick Petro, N3OET at the SKYWARN Storm Spotters Office.
To learn how you can assist the National Weather Service as a Severe Local Storm
Spotter or For more information, please Contact Pinellas County Emergency Managment
at 727-464-3877 and leave a message for Kevin Heyboer, KD4UYR , the Director for Pinellas
County SKYWARNto find out about upcoming classes in Pinellas County or to schedule a class for
your organization in Pinellas County (All Amateur SKYWARN classes in Pinellas County are held
at the Pinellas EOC or the Sunstar Ambulance Facility)



Have you renewed your SKYWARN Training? If it is over three years since you last took the training, you need to renew now! The Next Scheduled Basic and Advanced SKYWARN Classes will be held Thursday April 19, 2007 at the Sunstar Ambulance Facility OR You can take it on-line NOW by clicking on the link below.
