There are 450+ CERT Teams and Sector Units, functioning in 129 CERT Programs covering 50 counties in Florida as of February 2004 and we continue to grow. Local fire departments, law enforcement agencies, county emergency management offices and other groups such as some Red Cross Chapters, schools, civic groups and businesses sponsor the CERT Program in the State. FEMA FY02 Supplemental Grant funds are being used to start-up programs in counties and locations without programs and to expand current programs. Training has been conducted in high schools for students, faculty and staff, in businesses, through churches and in many neighborhoods. CERT trained volunteers in several areas of the State have formed CERT associations and meet regularly to maintain their skills and prepare themselves for disasters.

CERT volunteers also perform community service duties to support local emergency management & emergency services ranging from working in emergency operations centers to helping to feed and support workers in staging areas and assist in
manning disaster shelters.

The State's Division of Emergency Management coordinates the CERT train-the-trainer course to help local agencies start-up a program. Some counties and municipalities also conduct train-the-trainer courses as needed.

The program runs 8 weeks and includes the FEMA core curriculum, pre and post event operations and an additional module on woodland/urban interface. All materials are free.

This is a "new" program starting up in Spring 2004. There was a program at one time in the Altamonte Springs Fire Department but that program ceased with the merger of the Altamonte Springs Fire Department with the Seminole County Fire/Rescue Service. The Altamonte Springs Police Department is now organizing a new CERT program for the community.

Established in 1998, this strong, well organized program demonstrates strong commitment and community support for CERT concepts with 375 trained personnel, organized in to 15 teams with a CERT budget and personnel support for the program within the Fire-Rescue Service.

CERT held its first class in October of 2000 and graduating 26 members. Additional courses have been run in 2001,2002 and 2003. The class is offered to all residents and businesses on a first come, first serve basis. Local Fire Services, EMS and Emergency Management volunteer their time to teach the course. Guest speakers, such as Florida Power, are included in the program.

The department offers seven-week training programs throughout
the year and refresher courses are offered on an as needed

New program begun in late Fall 2003. Daytona Beach is the active "Special Events"
capital of Florida, hosting multiple large-scale national and international events, is highly vulnerable to weather disasters, transportation emergencies and other significant
emergencies. CERT Team members are expected to become a valuable additional resource during these activities and emergencies.

We have 120 active people trained. We meet once a month for training. Each quarter, we have a full-scale drill that specializes in disaster operations. These people are a tremendous asset to the Fire Departmentand have helped us in times of disaster and in many other non-disaster operations.

The City of Ft Myers has recently completed its first CERT class. Plans are in place to conduct additional classes after the first of the year. The joint effort between the Police and Fire Departments was a success.

This CERT Program is coordinated by the City of Lake Helen, the Lake Helen Police Department and the Volunteer Fireman's/CERT Association. Extensive refresher and continuing education training is available.

A goal of the City is to have trained CERT
personnel in every residential neighborhood. Program includes refresher

The first CERT Class was completed 2001 and funded by a grant from the Vince Foundation. Other classes have been taught. The program is 8 weeks long, is free of charge, utilizes the FEMA Basic Curriculum along with an added local unit pertaining to wildlife interface.

The CERT Program started in March 2002. We've trained aprox. 64 residents as of Nov 2002. The class is offered throughout the year and is scheduled to meet each communities needs. Our goal is to have CERT's in all communities for maximum effectiveness.

Clearwater completed there first official CERT Training program. The CERT
graduates are an appreciated, valued auxillary group willing and dedicated to helping their community. Other CERT courses are planned.

Golden Gate Fire Control and Rescue District's Community Emergency Response Teams began in 2002.

The district has three active teams with more coming as residents create new teams within their neighborhoods.

CERT members receive training from in-house instructors as well as instructors from Collier County Emergency Management and Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

CPR and First Aid are provided by the fire district as complimentary training to CERT.

Refresher training is held by district liaisons at team meetings.

The Coral Springs Fire Department is currently in the process of implementing the CERT Program. Our hope is to get our citizens involved with disaster preparedness by taking a proactive approach through education.

We have 51 CERT volunteers in our group. Many of our group has completed a CPR class recently. Additional training sessions are being scheduled. Each member has been issued a FRS radio. We have meetings each month on the 2nd Tuesday. At the meeting we review procedures and other skills needed to help our community if and when we are needed.

The CERT course is free to DeBary residents and is taught by Volusia County Fire Services. After the required 7-week course is completed, members are taken on a tour of the Volusia County Emergency Operations Center. We then offer CPR classes and training on the use of our 800 mgh radios.

A new program, which just graduated it's first CERT qualified group in Oct 2002. More courses are planned for 2002 & 2003.

Last phase of first training session; 12 team members will be trained and qualified by the end of October 2003; another training session is scheduled to start November 2003 for +18 volunteers from the Local Ham Radio Club and Local RV Parks.

The Escambia County CERT program began in
1998. The course is offered to all residents and businesses on a first
come,first serve basis. Local Fire Services, EMS and Emergency Management
personnel, volunteer their time to teach the course.

Flagler County CERT plans to train over 100 members in the next 2 years. Our first team will be in Sea Colony, an Ocean Side Gated Community.

We have a 7-week class that follows the FEMA guidelines. We conduct a small disaster drill at the end of each class to tie in all of the subjects that were taught in the classes.

Established in November 1998, the North Naples C.E.R.T. team has over 300 trained members that make up 16 teams in our fire district. The C.E.R.T. seven week course is free to residents of North Naples. In addition, we hold monthly training meetings to keep our C.E.R.T alumni abreast of changing conditions in our area.

Nassau County's CERT program is currently being developed. The first training class is tentatively scheduled to begin in February 2004 and is open to residents of Nassau County.

Dynamic long time CERT program with frequent training courses.

A unique bi-lingual team (US & French Canadian)off of US Highway 441, north of Lake Okeechobee in South Florida with 12+ members, some of whom are French Canadians living here only during the winter.

This six (6) week course is taught with FEMA materials and standards to our citizens and guests.

Established almost 2 years ago, we're a community of 352 families with 45 CERT trained members and about 20 volunteers with various medical, amateur radio and other skills. 120 trained volunteers man our community AED program. We are working on enhancing liaison and support for all CERT groups with PBC EOC and Fire/Rescue.

Since 1994 over 800 citizens have received Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue's CERT training. The department offers two CERT training classes per year with each class lasting 7 consecutive weeks. Topics of the course include: Disaster Preparedenss, Medical Operations, Light Search & Rescue, Fire Suppression, and adult CPR.

Boynton Beach is a 18 sq. mile municipality with a population of 62,000, located on the east coast of Florida just south of West Palm Beach. Our CERT program is open to citizens of Boynton Beach and is currently funded through a state EMS grant.
