Presented by the Pinellas County Emergency Management ACS staff.

1. Download all required software (free.)
2. Install all required software on home and/or laptop computer.
3. Configure the software for the computer.
4. Register a WL2K ham radio e-mail address (yourcall@winlink.org)
5. Add the new e-mail account to Outlook Express (or your favorite e-mail client.)
6. Exchange e-mail using the ham radio software just configured.

NO TNC OR RADIO NEEDED

In the process you will learn the basics of how the WL2K system of Ham Radio e-mail works to
support EMCOMMs and hams who are traveling w/o an internet connection.

You start with Assignment #1 and work at your own pace. Each assignment will have a goal and a
short progress report.

When you have a question or get bogged down, you send me or an assigned mentor an e-mail. You
will get an answer back in short order so you can proceed. If there is sufficient interest, the mentoring
communications will use an e-mail reflector so that all can benefit from the group experience.

I estimate that you should be able to complete the entire course in 15 keyboard/mouse hours or less
depending on your facility with downloading and installing software. You may take a
week or two, even a month to complete the course depending on your pace.

What you don't need for this is a TNC and radio! Later when you decide to add local vhf packet and/or HF
you will be able to use this over the air.

What you need to put up a Telpac Node is:

A computer running Windows 2000 or XP that is on the internet. This can be fulltime
broad band or dial up.

If you only have Win98 you will use a slightly different group of programs, but it will work.
You can set your own goal for finishing the course.
